Etna Volcano is about 40 km away from Catania City Centre and La
Ville Hotel.
With a volume of 600 cube kilometres and 3,348 of highness, the Etna
is the highest active volcano across Europe. There are more than 250
cones, once craters, open in various points. The most famous craters
are definitely the "Monti Rossi" open in 1669 and 800 metres high,
and the e "Silvestri" ones, open 1892 and 2,000 metres high.
In Etna’s highest point there are four other open craters: Bocca
Nuova, Voragine, South-East Crater, North-East Crater, each of them
with a diameter of about 250 metres.
In the eastern part there is the "Valle del Bove", born about 10,000
years ago, whose dimensions are 10 km large and 900 metres deep.
The Valle del Bove is the result of a big collapse. Today its
geological structure is still visibile from all the eastern side of
the Etna.
Reaching Etna from Taormina is very easy thanks to Motorway A18
Catania Messina, exiting Giarre and going up to Linguaglossa the
main village in the northern part of the Etna.
There are also many private companies who organize excursions by bus
or jeep with pick-up directly in hotel
