The ancient
maritime village of Ognina “il Borgo di Ognina”, that sprung
from a natural inlet, has a little harbour and a Church,
consecrated to the young Virgin Mary, where on September the 8th
a characteristic feast takes place, involving fishermen and
devotees. Today, it is a small landing port for small boats and
fishermen and it is also possible to visit a little but
interesting sea museum. It collects tools and fishermen’s
nautical instruments. You can find tools, objects linked with
sea life, model of ships, different types of
fishing net, “fusi “ used to hoist the net on the boat, various
containers that were used to transport the fish captured. There
are other things, such as amphoras for the wine transfers,
belonging to the Greek-Roman age. The sea museum continues to
collect many artefacts of sea faring culture where you can
admire the traces of an ancient art. This museum is really a
laboratory of popular tradition of the sea world. Besides the
expositive halls dedicated to specific subjects ( sea
archaeology, story of sea tools and fishing techniques) the
museum also includes a library and a hall dedicated to the
projection of didactic documentaries about the sea world.
