Bellini theatre was inaugurated in
1890, several projects werw presented to the City Council
because there was the desire to build a larg theatrical building
in Catania as in other European countries. It was necessary to
imitade the Opera of Paris as temple of music and arts. Carlo
Sada’s project, was considered the most suitable. The
nineteenth-century style is eclectic.
The façade, is constituded by a central and
advanced body with a double order of arcades. The sculpturesque
decoration is based on the triumph of music and arts.The
interior is composed by an hall with five order of boxes.The
ceiling is decorated with frescoes by Ernesto Bellandi with
scenes of Bellini’s Apoteosi and allegories of la Norma, I
Puritani, La Sonnambula and Il Pirata.
