The
Vincenzo Bellini museum is placed in his the native
home, that was damaged during the earthquake of 1693, but it was
rebuilt in its originary site. The palace prospect presents an
ashlar portal with corbels created by eighteenth century stone
engravers and a noble floor.
From the main door, it is possible to reach a
narrow courtyard , in front of which is the museum entrance. A
marble slab remembers that the musician’s house was declared
national monument in 1923. The museum contains documents and
object regarding the Catanese artist’s career and his life. It
was inaugurated in 1930. Bellini lived there for 16 years. The
first room contains scale models assembled on a little theatre
regarding his ten works: La Sonnambula, La Norma, Beatrice di
Tenda, Adelson e Salvini, Zaira and I Puritani. Another room
preserves the original floor.Documents regarding his child-hood
are arranged on the walls. the alcove is the place where he was
born.
This museum also contains some of Bellini’s
portraits, antiques, a wax mask, copy of Bellini’s face and
panels that remember his life as a composer : Catanese period,
Neapolitan period, Milanese period, Palermitan period, Londoner
period and Parisian period.
